Actors Behind the Amazing Characters of Kirk and Spock

Star Trek won’t be Star Trek without these two important characters: Captain James T. Kirk and Spock. Their names have synonymous to the movie’s identity that it just won’t be complete without these two. To give tribute to these amazing characters and their big contribution to the movie’s success, here is a close look at these roles and the actors who have played them.

James T. Kirk

James Tiberius “Jim” Kirk is the lead character in the original series of Star Trek. The original actor who played this character is William Shatner, who also lent his voice to the role for the animated series in the television. He appeared in the first seven movies and has become the first face you would imagined upon the mention of Kirk, or even the movie. In the 2009, Star Trek film, Chris Pine played the younger version of Kirk along with Jimmy Bennett as the child Kirk. Kirk’s character is known for his strength, leadership skills, and responsibility. He was however, often criticized for his romantic relationships.

William Shatner

William Alan Shatner is a Canadian actor who gained fame around the world for his portrayal of Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise for the movie Star Trek. He has authored several books that chronicle his experiences playing this part and being part of this phenomenal movie. He also appeared in numerous films and television shows other than Star Trek.

Chris Pine

Chris Pine is an up and coming actor best known for romantic comedies like The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and Just My Luck. He also starred in films like Smokin’ Aces, and Unstoppable. His biggest break though is landing the lead role in the 2009 Star Trek film.

Spock

Another interesting character in the Star Trek media franchise is Spock, which was first portrayed by Leonard Nimoy. The 2009 Star Trek film still stars Spock, but this time, it is played by Zachary Quinto along with Jacob Kogan as the child Spock. According to many critics, Spock is one of the most interesting fictional characters ever created for a Hollywood film.

Leonard Nimoy

Leonard Nimoy is an American actor who is also a poet, musician, photographer, and film director. Although he has starred in a wide array of films and television shows, his most famous role is the one here in Star Trek. When he started out his career during his younger years, he taught acting classes in Hollywood while appearing in minor films during the 1950s.

Zachary Quinto

Zachary Quinto is best known for his stint in the famous television series, Heroes where he played the nemesis named Sylar. This half-Italian, half Irish actor started out his career with the television show The Others. He also had several guest appearances in CSI, Touched by an Angel, Six Feet Under, Lizzie McGuire, and L.A. Dragnet. His Star Trek role as Spock allowed him to make a mark in Hollywood.
