Different Khan in Into Darkness
The 12th installment of the Star Trek film franchises entitled Into Darkness will be released this 2013 as sequel to the 2009 Star Trek film. J.J. Abrams directs the film based on the series of the same name and shows Khan as somehow a different entity.
Khan Noonien Singh or simply Khan plays the role of a villain in previous Star Trek franchises. His character was first seen in the 1967 Space Seed episode played by Ricardo Montalban. In the 2013 movie his character would be portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. The known villain controlled more than a Quarter of the Earth during the Eugenics War in the 1990s. He was sent to an exile after he tried to capture the USS Enterprise under James T. Kirk. After 15 years in The Wrath of Khan, he set out to execute his revenge for Kirk.
The film Into Darkness is set 10 years before the Space Seed. In this film, Khan appears to be the victim of Admiral Alexander Marcus who forces him to make weapons of war so that the Admiral would spare the lives of his crew. Marcus gives Khan the identity as John Harrison.
When Khan believed that Marcus had already killed his crew, he went rogue and escaped, going to Kronos. Marcus then sends a team with Kirk to kill Khan. However, Kirk tries to capture Khan alive and the latter reveals what Marcus had done. Khan and Kirk works together to prevent Marcus from destroying the Enterprise. After killing Marcus, Khan tries to regain his crew. In the end, he is placed in a cryogenic sleep with his crew.
