Lieutenant Ilia of the USS Enterprise
With all the different species of mostly men in the production Star Trek, it might seem like a refreshing sight to see some girl power like Lieutenant Ilia who served in the USS Enterprise and appeared at different episodes. Her role was brief but just the same, it left an impact to the series. The character of Lieutenant Ilia was played by Persis Khambatta and the role was considered as one of the sexiest alien roles in the history.
Lieutenant Ilia is a single female of the Deltan species who served the Starfleet and USS Enterprise NCC-1701 under Captain James T. Kirk. During 2270, in the V’Ger incident, she was aboard the Enterprise as navigator. As a Deltan who wanted to be part of the Starfleet, she also took the oath of celibacy during the initiation. Her romantic involvement with Commander Willard Decker posed some threats to her oath of celibacy. Her service to the fleet was brief as she was killed by a probe from the V’Gerentity.
The V’Ger created an artificial duplicate of Ilia to collect information from the Enterprise. It had the same completely bald head, arched eyebrows, pointed nose, and pouty lips. It was later found in the medical exam that the drone was closely like Ilia even up to the molecular structure. Even Ilia’s emotions and memories of Commander Willard were within the probe. Captain Kirk even reinstated that Ilia and Decker were both missing instead of dead at the conclusion of this part of the story.
