Explore the USS Voyager’s Delta Flyer In the science fiction television series Star Trek, the Delta Flyer is a shuttlecraft that is attached to the USS Voyager. The Delta Flyer first appeared in the episode Extreme Risk. It was designed by Star Trek series production designer Richard James and senior illustrator Rick Sternbach. According to the Star Trek sotry, the Delta Flyer was originally the idea of Lieutenant Tom Paris, who followed Seven of Nine’s suggestion that he should make a new shuttlcraft to overcome the deficiencies of Class 2 shuttles. Lieutenant Tom Paris was helped by Lieutenant B’Elanna Torres, who lent her engineering skills, and by Seven of Nine, who shared her expertise in Borg weaponry in designing the USS Voyager’s Delta Flyer. As a final touch, Lieutenant Tom Paris fitted the cockpit with manual flight controls. This is because of his love for flying. In one Star Trek episode, the Delta Flyer was used to test quantum slipstream technology. The first Delta Flyer was used in one episode to get inside a Borg Tactical Cube. This Delta Flyer was destroyed, but the Star Trek crew quickly built another one. This was so that the Delta Flyer could race against other interstella small craft. When Paris and Torres were married, the Delta Flyer was used as their honeymoon craft. In another episode, the Delta Flyer was used to test quantum slipstream technology. The original Delta Flyer was used in one episode to infiltrate a Borg Tactical Cube and the Flyer was destroyed; the crew quickly replaced it by building a new version, just in time for it to compete in an interstellar small craft race. After the episode in which they married, newlyweds Paris and Torres used the Delta Flyer as their honeymoon vehicle. The Delt FLyer has many uses.
