Drydocks Work on the USS Enterprise
During the 23rd century, the Federation commissioned for an Excelsior-class starship and named it Enterprise. The USS Enterprise NCC-1701 captained by Commander Pavel Chekov was decommissioned. It was year 2293 when the Enterprise B was commissioned and launched from a drydock orbiting Earth under Captain John Harriman. Honourable guests christened the ship with a vintage 2265 bottle of Dom Perignon. The ship was launched although it lacks medical staff, photon torpedoes, and tractor beam. Despite these, the guests find it to be an impressive ship.
Drydocks are structures where starships and space vehicles undergo upgrades and services. Ships are also built in drydocks too. A drydocks in San Francisco yard launched the original USS Enterprise NCC-1701 after an overhaul. This ship managed several attacks under Captain James T. Kirk. Another Enterprise ship, the NCC-1701-B was also launched from a drydocks orbiting Earth in 2293.
Usually, both ends of a drydock are left open for the starships to freely make its way in and out. This feature also enables smaller shuttles to manoeuvre inside even when starships are docked inside.
The dock that launched Enterprise B was linked to the ship’s rear saucer section. This drydocks have other features. There is an actual docking port that holds a ship in place by the rear and the top portion is more complex compared to its sides. There is also a delicate-looking latticework covers the whole ships so that work may be done in all angles. The lights are attached to protruding arms so they can function like spotlights and the light may easily be adjusted.
