The Roles of Ambassador Sarek The original Star Trek franchise features Sarek as a Vulcan astrophysicist. He is also a Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets and a father to another fictional Star Trek character, Spock. Several actors played the role of Sarek throughout the different film franchises. It was Mark Lenard who first played as Ambassador Sarek in the 1967 episode entitled ‘Journey to Babel.’ It was Jonathan Simpson who played the role of young Sarek in Star Trek V: the Final Frontier. The 2009 Star Trek film featured Ben Cross as the ambassador. The character appeared in several Star Trek episodes including four movies, two episodes of the Star trex Next generation series, and lots of novels and comics of the series. Sarek was born in 2165 to his father, Skon. His grandfather was the first Vulcan ambassador to Earth. He had a previous affair with a Vulcan priestess named T’Rea that bore him his first son, Sybok. His first marriage though was with a human named Amanda Grayson. Amanda gave birth to Sarek’s second son, Spock. When Amanda died, Sarek remarried another human named Perrin but they did not have a child. Sarek was a Vulcan with great compassion for humans. His emotions were that of love and compassion against pure logic that commonly ran among the minds of other characters.
