Who is Commander Tuvok?

Commander Tuvok is one of the main characters of the television series Star Trek: Voyager. He is a Vulcan who is the Voyager’s chief of security and chief tactical officer. Commander Tuvok was played by Tim Russ from 1995 to 2001, which was the duration of Star Trek: Voyager’s run. Born on the stardate 38774 during the mid-23rd century, Commander Tuvok first saw life on Vulcanis, a lunar colony of the Vulcan people.

When Commander Tuvok was a teenager, he fell in love with Jara, who was the daughter of a Terlian diplomat. Sadly, Jara did not return his affection. Tuvok was expelled from school and subsequently sent by his parents to study with a Vulcan master. This was so that he would learn to control his feelings.

Tuvok then studied at the Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. He graduated at the age of 29 and was commissioned as an Ensign. His first job was onboard the USS Excelsior. He served as a Junior Science Officer under Captain Hikaru Sulu.

However, Commander Tuvok was not comfortable mixing with non-Vulcans. In 2298, he resigned his Starfleet commission so that he could undertake the Vulcan’s Kolinahr program of true non-emotion. Six years later, he entered pon farr. This resulted in his marriage to T’Pel. They started a family. Commnader Tuvok would not rejoin the Starfleet for another 50 years.
