Uhura might be one of the most intriguing characters to watch out in Star Trek, but the actress that played the role is just as intriguing. And who would better play Uhura than the striking Zoe Saldana. Known for portraying roles of females with very strong personality – dancer Eva Rodriguez in Center Stage, Ana Maria who played alongside the infamous Jack Sparrow in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean, Neytiri in Avatar, Saldana might not be having a very difficult task in playing the Star Trek lieutenant after all. So it was never a shock when Saldana was cast to play Nyota Uhura in the Star Trek film. She might look too perfect for the character, but Saldana had travelled a long way before she landed the promising role. Here’s a glimpse of the actress’ life story and her stints in Hollywood.

Born from a Puerto Rican mom, and a father of Dominican descent, Zoe Saldana was a beauty to behold. She was a head turner even back then, and a very energetic teen. She was born June 19, 1978, and was doing her first stints in the United States. Studied dancing and ballet, she pursued her talent in arts by joining theater groups and plays. It was when she was performing in New York Youth Theater that she was seen by a talent agent.

It was on 1999 that she was cast on her first film role as Eva Rodriguez on the drama, Center Stage. In here, she was able to utilize her dancing talent, and was able to relate to the character on the deepest sense. She then had a chance to work with Britney Spears on the movie Crossroads. Though the movie was criticized by some, her portrayal of the role was commended by critics.

Though she was just a novice on the industry and was just adjusting her realm in Hollywood, her unique talent, stunning beauty and sheer determination landed her in good roles and blockbuster films. Working with great actors and actresses hone her acting skills even better, as she was clever enough to absorb the lessons she had learned from the experience. She also received a lot of good commendation from producers and directors, and gained respect and praises from her co-stars.

A long way indeed for the actress, and yet another good role to play has again come her way. Exceeding the expectations of many, she was very intense and effective in portraying the role of Uhura. Judging from her past, we could say that Saldana would no doubt be giving her best for the portrayal, and she did so in reliving the intriguing life of Uhura fantastically. After seeing the movie, Star Trek fanatics would have yet another reason of being one- and that would be Zoe Saldana.
