Kira Nerys in Deep Space 9

One of the prominent female members of Bajoran Resistance in the 24th century is Kira Nerys. She spent her life in Bajor during the Cardassian occupation and after they withdrew, she joined the Bajoran Militia. She became a Starfleet Captain and headed Federation Starbase deep Space 9 and the Starship USS Defiant when the Bajoran joined the Federation in 2376. After quite some time she left Starfleet to be a member of the Bajoran religion.

Like other Star Trek Human characters, Kira Nerys had a troubled childhood but unique. Her parents were Kira Taban and Kira Meru. Her mother was taken to be a comfort woman in Terok Nor so their father told them that their mother had died. Kira Nerys was only able to know the truth in 2374 when she travelled back in time using the Orb of Time. She used the name Luma Rahl during her time travel and met her three year-old self who was innocent of everything.

Kira Nerys became captain of the Federaton Starbase Deep Space 9 and the starship known as USS Defiant in 2376 after the Bajor joined the Federation. She was stabbed through the heart on the last day of the year, leaving her comatose and her natural heart completely unable to function. The stabber was Taran’atar who was being controlled by outside forces. It was Dr. Julian Bashir who saved Kira’s life by replacing her heart with an artificial one. During her coma, Kira saw a vision from the prophets stating that Bajor needs to have allies because of the impending threat from the Ascendants.

After recover, Kira accepted her role as Hand of the Prophets and left the Federation to join the Bajoran Religious Order. In three years she became a Vedek. From a captain, Kira Nerys became a prophet.
