Under the leadership of Capt. Ben Maxwell, Miles O’ Brien was reassigned as the bridge tactical officer. A clash with the Cardassians transpired during this period. It was also during this time that he experienced a close encounter with death. He had to kill a Cardassian who attacked him. This incident paved the way for his renewed interest in mechanics. He was later on transferred to the U.S.S Enterprise, under the leadership of Captain Jean Luc Piccard.
Miles O’ Brien was the first Starfleet chief of operations. Miles O’ Brien was also known for playing the cello. Before he joined Starfleet, he was supposed to enroll at the Aldebaran Music Academy.
