Thus, the vehicle is able to use this kinetic energy to produce more mechanical power. The Oberth effect is used in a powered flyby known as an Oberth maneuver. Once a rocket engine is used and an impulse is applied from this source close to a gravitational body there is a higher change in the body’s kinetic energy and final speed.
