Klingon-Human hybrid B’Elanna Torres
B’Elanna Torres has a distinct name. Played by the actress Roxann Dawson, B’Elanna Torres is a main character in Star Trek: Voyager. B’Elanna Torres is half-human and half-Klingon. She was born in 2349 on Kessik IV, which is a Federation colony. B’Elanna Torres became a member of the Maquis in 2379. She was aboard the Val jean when it was brought to the Delta Quadrant. B’Elanna Torres later joined the USS Voyager. She was posted in Engineering and given the provisional rank of Lieutenant, junior grade. But B’Elanna Torres proved to be very capable at her job. She was soon promoted to the provisional rank of Lieutenant. Eventually, she became the Chief Engineer of the Voyager.
In 2377, B’Elanna Torres married Tom Paris. The following year saw the birth of their daughter Miral during the Voyager’s return to the Alpha Quadrant.
Initially, Roxann Dawson had problems playing B’Elanna Torres. She had an obvious Klingon forehead and nose and she was also required to wear a set of Klingon teeth. This made her feel extremely uncomfortable. So Roxann Dawson talked to the Star Trek producers as well as makeup artist Michael Westmore. She asked if she could become more personable and if the Klingon makeup could be minimized.
Roxann Dawson was a lot happier with the next design for her character. She called it beauty monster makeup.
